OCTOBER

Here's all the good fun we've gotten into in October...

First we went to paint pumpkins (with Lokei, of course)

Then we went to the zoo for a special behind-the-scenes morning. The theme was Fly by Night, so we got to see (and touch some) of the night creatures at the zoo - an owl, a hedgehog looking thing, bats, and more... Then got to do an art project - the owl magnet. And had a special snack - the "bird's nest" made of pretzels, M&M's, etc. We also got to take a ride on the zoo train. Was a fun morning.

AND FINALLY, THE BIG EVENT OF THE MONTH....
KAIRA'S 5TH BIRTHDAY!!

We started the morning by going to IHOP for breakfast (notice the "Birthday Girl" pin Kaira has on... she wore it the ENTIRE day - even tried to talk me into pinning it to her jammies at bedtime)

Kaira had a party at school (sorry, no pics of that). Then we went out to dinner at John's restaurant with Lokei. There was a clown, Zoe, who made animal balloons for the girls. By the end of the night, they were covered with balloons. In the second pic, they were trying to hug each other good night right before we headed home, but all the balloons were in the way. Was pretty funny to watch.

Kaira right after she blew out the candles... and her birthday balloon bouquet (I got it for her before I picked her up for school and had it waiting on our table at the restaurant when we got there - she loved it!).

Then Saturday, I threw a party for her at the house. We had an inflatable jump castle, and a pool (well, kiddie pool) with a water slide, cake & ice cream, presents... all the great stuff for a party.

The girls started with jumping on the castle and splashing around in the pool - spent hours doing it too!

Also had decorations everywhere. Inside the house was covered with banners, balloons and streamers. And outside... a "Cars" banner, and sidewalk paint proclaiming "Happy Birthday Kaira!"

Then it was inside for cake and ice cream... a Lightning McQueen cake, no less. The cake was a surprise, and she was super excited about it. When it was time to cut it, I told her she could pick any piece she wanted, and she wanted the one with the numbers on it - right in the middle, of course. So she got the Number 95 piece.

Then presents!!

And the big present of the day was a very large and impressive remote control car. It was the one thing she asked for, so I decided to get it for her. The thing can climb 40 degree inclines and crawl over rocks and all sorts of crazy stuff.

And before I wrap up, one last picture of the birthday girl...

A few quick pictures from their mid-semester show in gymnastics (real informal, just showing off a few tricks they know)... forward roll, gearing up for a cartwheel, [assisted] handstand, crabwalk on the bars, and a few flips over the bars.

HALLOWEEN!!

Took Kaira and Lokei to Boo at the Zoo, a special thing they do at the zoo where the kids can dress up in their costumes and visit various booths set up throughout the zoo to get candy and stuff. Both of the girls wanted to be ballerinas. Lokei wore her costume from last years dance recital at her dance class. Kaira wore her outfit she normally wears to ballet with the addition of a tutu that I rigged up for the occasion. They turned out to be a pretty cute pair.

My friend had a pumpkin carving party and Kaira and I each brought a pumpkin. She picked out the horse pattern and then let me do all the work. They turned out pretty good.

Hope you enjoyed!
